Definition

Multi-track recording allows multiple instruments and voices to be recorded simultaneously or one at a time to separate 'tracks'.

Each track can subsequently be individually processed and manipulated before mixing to a stereo master.

Multi-track recording enabled the creation of new sounds that would be impossible to create outside the studio, e.g. such as a lead singer adding many harmony vocals with their own voice to their own lead vocal part.
