Microphone level

Definition

The level or voltage of a signal produced by a microphone.

Typically mic-level signals are considerably lower than line-level signals, so a pre-amplifier must be used to boost their output. In dynamic microphones the output of their built-in preamplifier is high enough not to require any more boosting.

Condenser microphones need 48v (Phantom Power) to power the microphone pre-amp.
