Definition
A musical instrument having a flexible bag inflated either by a tube with valves or by bellows, a double-reed melody pipe called the chanter, and from one to four drone pipes.
Bagpipes can play solo music known as pibroch, or join with other pipers and drums to form a pipe band. Bagpipe competitions are common in Scotland, and both solo pipers and pipe bands can compete for numerous prizes and awards.
